Bolus Herbarium Library Materials
The books in the Bolus Herbarium Library are arranged numerically regardless of prefixes of shelf numbers. The sequence is split physically as follows:
Shelf label: 000 – 585.999 ... Lower Level
Shelf label: 586 – 999.999 ... Cryptogram Library / Upper Level
The Reference Collection books are shelved in glass door shelves in lower level reading room as you enter the library.
Oversized reference books are shelved at the last glass door shelve with atlases.
Reserve items are kept on wooden shelf next to loans desk. They are open to users to read in the library as long as the library is open. Items can be borrowed for overnight weekdays and for weekend on Fridays.
Items on top three shelves are arranges numerically regardless of their prefixes.
Fourth shelf items are private books owned by lecturers and the Biological Science department, they are arranged alphabetically by authors.
The New Books are displayed on a table in lower level reading room. The display is changed as new books arrive, and the books on display may be taken out on loan.
More than two thirds of the UCT Libraries' journals are electronic and can be accessed via the e-Journal Portal.
Current Journals: The latest volumes of print journal subscriptions at Bolus Herbarium Library are displayed on high display shelf against glass wall in the Reading Room next to new books display. These journal issues may not be borrowed, but there is comfortable seat next to window for readers, photocopy and scanning.
Older print journals are shelved in Lower Level in Glass Room next to our Rare Books Room, they are arranged alphabetically by Journal Titles.
